This bums me out.

Very, very sad news: It has been confirmed that Jay Reatard has died. He was 29 years old. More details are forthcoming.

Goner Records writes, "It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public." The Memphis Commerical Appeal reports that Reatard was found in his home at 3:30 am this morning.

Saw Jay play alot over the years...never liked the Reatards much (though I enjoyed myself at both shows I saw 'em play) but I thought his bands like the Angry Angles, Bad Times and Final Solutions did some great stuff. Never really got into the Lost Sounds shit...but I'll hafta pull some out and give it a spin this weekend. The dude was cool enough to me whenever I talked to him (hadn't done so in 5 or 6 years), but he could be a bratty douche at times...especially to bandmates. I actually just got an email out of the blue from him a few days before he died...didn't even get a chance to reply. There's a short documentary on him on the net somewhere...near the end there's a creepy bit where he talks about being "on a deadline"...wanting to record as many records while he can, because he can't make records when he's dead.
