when they played here a year and abit back, the drummer threw his cymbal in a bitch fit into the crowd, which hit me in the face....then their rodie hardcore dance'd me in the nuts. sucked ass, cause i heard their songs and was stoked to see them and then just got owned. good band, questionable dudes.

last time they played vancouver they carried themselves like assholes and disrespected the enue and the promoter. their attemps at being edgy and in your face came off as being forced and moronic. also the singer mocked some kids hat, im willing to bet it was one of that kids first experiences with a hardcore show and they probably ruined hardcore for him. and they next night in seattle the singer was knocking over monitors and wrecking sound equipment. the first time i saw them they seemed like nice enough dudes just stoked to be playing a show and have kids come out but I really dont see that side of this band anymore.

just my 2 cents

I was really into this band. Hell, I was down with him throwing a cymbal at the crowd. But yeah, after stories I've heard (which hunter has brought up) I've lost my respect for the band.

Would see Lewd Acts. Would be stoaked to have a cymbal thrown at me. It's hardcore, it's supposed to be dangerous. When I saw Dropdead and 9 ShocksTerror in 2006 PA stacks were crashing off the stage into the audience while the scariest dudes I've ever seen in my life were moshing like it was some thunderdome shit. The first time I saw Fucked Up all could see was what seemed like hundreds of pumpkins hurtling through the air and kids diving out of the way. When I saw them at MTV in Toronto it was more or less the same, except instead of throwing pumpkins kids were throwing metal scafolding that they ripped off the stage. had never felt so simultaniously terrified for my life and so at home. I've seen the singer for The Gorgeous kick a kids ass mid set with his free hand, while still singing the song. I remember coming home shows with bloody noses and black eyes from moshing and being unable to explain to my parents how I got them, just that it was either from somebody in a band or somebody in the crown and I wasn't sure which. I've had my head split open on more guitar's head stocks than I can remember. And that's all really just the tip of the iceberg. I don't expect any of that to happen in Victoria and that's probably a good thing, but we should at least have an understanding that things you guys are accusing Lewd Acts of doing have been a part of punk and hardcore since day one and will probably always always be a part of punk and hardcore. Let's not start being surprised with our own culture.

And if kids are dropping out of hardcore because somebody in a semi well known band makes fun of their choice in hats, well then I don't even know what to say to that.

yeah it's definatley cool when bands lose their shit, and hardcore is supposed to be dangereous, and the idea of a band spazzing out and throwing cymbals at the crowd sounds pretty cool, i guess. But when you have a cymbal and stand thrown from 15 feet away with no interceptions hit you square in the face, it's a little harder to be hyped on.

I dunno man, I'm not going to argue with you about whether or not you should have liked getting smashed in the face, but I will say the one of my favourite memories is getting hit square in the face with a pumpkin thrown from about 10 feet away by one of the members of Fucked Up at one of my first hardcore shows in Toronto. My nose was pretty busted. Blood was everywhere. I haven't looked back since. I guess I just like pain more than you.

definitely worth having back despite the dangerous stage antics, last time they brought fortified wine up from the states, got us drunk and were generally fun dudes.

No, it's not. There's nothing in the culture that blanket espouses violent behavior. If there are certain bands that want to propagate that behavior around their band/scene then that's on them. People can choose to support/participate in that or not. There's a lot of difference between hard moshing and throwing a cymbal at the audience.

If I am able, i will bring them back. They are solid dudes (the roadie who kicked you in the nuts is gonna be my best man, Mike) and while they go apeshit and destroy the fuck out of venues, Tyler also offers to pay for ANY damage he/the band does.

They make hardcore dangerous, and I support that.

If no one wants to see this show, that's fine. I'll put it on in my living room, and anyone who DOES wanna see it can come get punched in the face.

Hunter, I make fun of kids hats all the time.

I see kids get more messed up in mosh pits. It's VIOLENT music, so I expect some form of VIOLENCE at shows. It's a HARDCORE not indie-folk. Band ruled.

Also, anyone in this thread that bitches about them being "too violent" or "acting like rockstars" never gets to listen to Integrity ever again, EVER. Integrity is banned from whole cities because of their bullshit, and are celebrated for it. Also, Hunter, how much do you love Earthcrisis? Cuz there are stories about them that make them seem...less than perfect. The last scene I was in was an orgy of violence and like. Lewd Acts just get rowdy at shows.

Jordan, you shouldn't be making judgments on what other people are saying. Trust your own instincts.

For the record, Integrity got wasted on mescaline and drove around Tijuana once, slamming their van door into street vendors. Best band in hardcore.

I'm sorry, this kind of blatant hypocrisy pisses me off. Hardcore is violent, period. The context of said violence is incredibly important, but overall, yeah...violent. I'm not angry at you guys, but this entire conversation is a giant pile of stupid.

I'm not sure I'd call 30 years of a distinct musical tradition certain bands. I'm just going to quote song lyrics for the rest of this thread.

Showing all these new hards
They're not SO FUCKIN' BAD
You and your crew
Would have never MADE IT THROUGH
The days we hung out
In 1982
The New York Brotherhood
I can't let go
The New York Brotherhood
where did they go?
We called it the Wolfpack
We called it UNITED BLOOD
Wore chains around our waists
And CONSTRUCTION GLOVES
Thompkins Sq. on a saturday night
See my brother, he's in a fight
They got him down, it's 3 on 1
10 of us show, GUESS WHO WON?
We hung out on 7th and A
Friends worked the door
We didn't have to pay
Boston came around one night
Push came to shove and
WE WERE DOWN TO FIGHT
We have seen the backstab blood
Most came and fuckin' went
They played the part
And they wore the right clothes
But they didn't know
What the fuck it meant
And I see it today
My backstabbing brothers
Believeing the lies
That they're telling each other
And I know I'll be here
When they're gone
'Cuz the New York Brotherhood
Is where my heart belongs
In rememberance of old New York
And to my friends
And the ones I've fought
A special place left in my heart
Those days are gone, man
But they're not forgot
