This bums me out.
Very, very sad news: It has been confirmed that Jay Reatard has died. He was 29 years old. More details are forthcoming.
Goner Records writes, "It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public." The Memphis Commerical Appeal reports that Reatard was found in his home at 3:30 am this morning.

Hell of a musician, put shit out something like twice a year.
Also, partied like an animal. I'm bummed he's gone, but none too surprised. I'm pretty sure he knew he wasn't gonna hit thirty.

Saw Jay play alot over the years...never liked the Reatards much (though I enjoyed myself at both shows I saw 'em play) but I thought his bands like the Angry Angles, Bad Times and Final Solutions did some great stuff. Never really got into the Lost Sounds shit...but I'll hafta pull some out and give it a spin this weekend. The dude was cool enough to me whenever I talked to him (hadn't done so in 5 or 6 years), but he could be a bratty douche at times...especially to bandmates. I actually just got an email out of the blue from him a few days before he died...didn't even get a chance to reply. There's a short documentary on him on the net somewhere...near the end there's a creepy bit where he talks about being "on a deadline"...wanting to record as many records while he can, because he can't make records when he's dead.

I already told you this, but it's being treated as a murder investigation and not an overdose. So party all you want kids, there is no lesson to be learned here.

I guess that's legit. Anyhow, there is still no lesson to be learned in regards to drug use, which at the end of the day is what's important.

I wasn't talking about lessons, just saying that he partied a shitload and made the inference that that was what killed him.
Hell the only lesson I've ever learned from a celebrity death was that no matter what you do, your gonna die. Party like a maniac? Gonna die. Run every day and eat raw vegan food? Gonna die. Cross the street after looking both ways? Still gonna fuckin die.
