Also Mike and Shelby are gonna play a short opening set as a two piece and probably do some hardcore punk covers or something?
Not sure if Iskra's gonna play before or after the touring bands yet, so show up early and catch it all. Bring $6 to get in (or if you don't have $6 bring what you do have) and additional money for Lab Rat's one-sided LP, Rape Revenge's 7'' and maaaaaaaybe (absolutely no promises) the brand new Bantha 7''. Oh and it's at the Sunset Room. Go for a walk to drink your beers PLEASE.
sorry i missed sexbrew. also i forgot to ask about your shirts i might want one once i get paid. or at least a patch. who knows.
i got there just in time to see Rape Revenge play 1 song. super bummed out theyre who i wanted to see that night. that 1 song sounded awesome though ugh. bought the 7" that will have to do
Lab Rat suprised me, didnt know who they were. they were awesome.
Iskra sounded great. im not the biggest fan of the new record but the new songs were good live. also Pig as an encore? fuck yes.
missed the very first band; I would have been on time had I know it was mike and shelby's project.
sixbrew were awesome. crowd was attentive but unresponsive, this is what happens when you (basically) open a show. Jeff, as per usual, heckled them. I told him to shut up.
rape revenge killed. I didn't know samantha was the singer. I saw her do a song with Self Rule in Edmonton a bazillion years ago and thought "damn she has an awesome voice she should totally be in a band." Got the 7".
Lab Rat were so fucking good too. Definitely had an Iron Lung thing going on. I bought their LP, I can't wait to listen to it. Friendly dudes!
Iskra are insane. Blackmetal on fucking speed, steroids, pcp and crystal meth. Probably the most brutal blackmetal band going right now; can anyone think of another current blackmetal band that is this fast and crazy, because I want to listen to them as well.
Got plastered and postered until the wee hours of the morning with Willa, Dan, Fish and Kate. Up the punx.
also who else is stoked Sunset Room has been welcoming to the punk community?
i didnt see any trouble last night aside from some broken glass which i cleaned up and maybe some ruffians sitting on the rocks. but i think its going well, and i hear the dude who is booking it is stoked on new crowds coming to that place. some kids were drinking around the venue but anyone we told to move somewhere more discrete were super understanding and gave no problems
also sidenote to bryan. i owe you $6 bucks for sneaking in last night. the only cash i had on me was 6 dollars and i gave it to RR for their 7". i will hit you back i promise.
in the future lets set up a debit machine at the doors.
i seriously am in total disbelief at how well this show went. mike and shelby's band actually seriously ruled, total godstomper-esque drum and bass thrashcore, shelby's scissor beats are the money. we had lots of fun playing and i thought sounded pretty good, everyone seemed really stoked which was cool. SOMEONE LET US PLAY IN YOUR HOUSE JULY 2ND SO PEOPLE IN VICTORIA CAN ACTUALLY BUY OUR 7''. rape revenge were totally fucking brutal, sam's vocals are insane, even did a rad minor threat cover, their 7'' kicks tons of ass. i've seen lab rat before and they were just as good this time, tons of super short and super abrupt songs packed into the shortest timespan possible, lots more slow parts than when i last saw them (definitely a bit of an iron lung thing going but more of a thrashy hardcore vibe), great band, their LP rules hard. what's there to say about iskra? amazing every single time i've ever seen them, this was no exception. tons of young kids came out, during the last couple bands the amount of energy in that room was absolutely unbelievable, i haven't seen a pit like that in victoria in aaaaaages (if ever). everyone was super respectful of the venue, only caught a couple people drinking and as keith said everyone was more than happy to go for a walk, finish their beer and come back. i've heard bad things from fellow promoters who've rented that place but i can say absolutely nothing negative about my experience, the dudes from the venue keeping an eye on things were ultra chill and actually seemed kinda stoked on the show, this was by far the best experience i've ever had with show promoting and it brings a gigantic smile to my face knowing i made that happen and was able to help out my friends on their tour and show them a good time here. thanks to cody for getting the best sound i've ever heard out of that venue, conrad for doing the door and tim, jordyn, sabine and whoever else acted as my outdoor "security" people (dudes from the venue let them come in for the last two bands when they saw that no one was lurking around outside during the bands). oh and don't worry about the $6 dude, sorry you missed the band you came to see.
