I don't play 5 string, so I can't help. If I was going to get an affordable 5 string the first one that comes to mind is the Yamaha TRB 5.
A lot of companies don't offer their budget 5 string left handed.
What music are you doing that needs a 5 string?

Rad! Good luck.
Do you need a 5 string though, or do you need a low B string? If you could live without the G string I'd just tune a 4 string BEAD.

When do you need the bass for? If you have a few days, send me your address and I can send you a couple B strings if you want. I think they're elixirs.
If L+M in Vic doesn't have a lefty bass in stock that you like I know the Van store has a few lefty basses in. Do you know what kind of bass you want?
You'll need to get the nut changed on the bass to accommodate the bigger strings, and get the truss rod adjusted/bass set up. It'll still all be cheaper than buying a lefty 5 string though.
Also, make sure the bass' bridge can accommodate the thickness of a B string. This isn't an issue for most basses these days, but better safe than sorry. And I recommend staying away from basses under 34" scale length (ie. Rickenbackers). Shorter scale basses have less string tension, and so do heavier strings, so you'll end up with floppy feeling strings on short scale basses.

Thanks Andrew but I had to get one soon so I got a fender jazz bass and but the heavier strings on it, so far its working out great.
Im enjoying writing bass lines with the low B, fucking heavy. gonna save up for a nice fender jazz bass 5 string.

Glad it's working out.
Fender doesn't make a left handed 5 string jazz. You'll find this with a lot of companies. Left handed basses are a token offering and are limited in color and model. Fender Japan does make a lefty 5 string Jazz for the Japanese market only, but unless you can find a used one it'd cost you the same as going to Seattle and getting a Regenerate bass ( a much better bass imo). Not the same as a passive Jazz bass, but for mid level lefty 5 strings Musicman and G+L are the ones you'll find most available/used most often. Let me know if/when you're looking for a 5'er and I'll keep an eye out for you.
