stoked on the youth crew love.
i get where you are coming from Willa. i have way less tolerance for crust stuff but then i also don't really feel i get the my way of life is right for "you" from most of the bands. most i just get the this shit gets us stoked and works well for "me" *bands*
yeah.

I tried this Rival Mob business and did not like it. Back to Black Breath and Converge.
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.

born to expire
unfinished business
planetXdanger
desperate times
nails
fire&ice
mindset
contagium
power trip
mammoth grinder
troops of tomorrow
rival mob
foundation
right now it seems like there's some rad up and coming stuff out of the 315/northern ny area (BTE and unfinished business. rip forfeit). also, niagara is bringing the mosh (p/d, desperate times).
how is jawbreaker a current band? just b/c they reissued unfun and there was a writeup in exclaim doesn't mean much. i'm not denying the awesomeness, but it pains me when they talk about reuniting, and then never do it.
i've been loving on rival mob since the demo came out, and have seen them a couple times and they currently stand as the best live hardcore band to see. kinda bites they'll most likely never be in western canada. no tolerance is also so awesome, but they need to write/record some more songs and play more than two shows a year.
youth crew in 2010 is so hit and miss. same boring song structures, same boring lyrical content, same fanbase/fanboys. mindset is an anomaly, but i feel as though this subgenre is soooo overdone.
honorable mentions go to foundation and fire & ice, two bands rehashing past eras and doing it extremely well. i've seen foundation a few times and when i first heard about them i was floored that atlanta had hardcore bands, as i really only pictured it as a rap only city, which it still basically is. they should collaborate with gucci mane.

how much modern youth crew do you listen to? yes there are lots of rehashes out there. but along with mindset pretty much every other react! band is keeping there sound fresh. have you listened to the keep it clear s/t? that shit is a rager! as for youthcrew being overdone, there arenet many youth crew bands getting noticed compared to all this nyhc rehash garbage comming out. also you like fire & ice so who are you to complain about boring bands. they peaked my interest with DYS inspires name but bored me to death when I saw them.keep_it_real wrote:youth crew in 2010 is so hit and miss. same boring song structures, same boring lyrical content, same fanbase/fanboys. mindset is an anomaly, but i feel as though this subgenre is soooo overdone.

Dude, Gray Ghost. Listen to Gray Ghost. There are other really good, relevant ATL Hardcore bands out there, too. I just don't remember them.
And Hunter, I think it comes down to style. For example: I happen to agree with Nick that youth crew is generally hit and miss, with few bands really flooring me and most bands just doing the same old, same old. However, I also am just not that into youth crew. Probably never really will be. However, if you play a Holy Terror rip off band or a dis band for me, I generally get pumped. Yet, they too are just same old, same old. I am more accepting of that because that's the shit I like. There's nothing wrong with thinking that way, mind you. It's when you start expecting everyone else to agree with you that I get annoyed. SO, yeah, Nick's opinion is valid, but so is your disagreement with him. Bygones?

yes Willa, I get where you are comming from. but saying youthcrew is overdone these days is absurd. how many labels(besides react and sketchy euro labels*) are putting out youth crew these days?

Really? Someone may be taking shit too far. Also, how is Crucial Response sketchy? Other than putting out some of the most godawful music known to man*.
And yeah, I see what you mean there. I think it's because of certain very vocal types on sites like B9 that it seems like youth crew is freakin' EVERYWHERE now a days. But fair enough, React! is pretty much the only label I can think of off the top of my head (well, them and CR).
*I straight up bought a Hardside 7" the other day. I have no room to talk.

Re: Current hardcore bands you're stoked on lately
yeah dude gray ghost is pretty great. soooo heavy. i wonder what kind of gear they're using.
and i will agree that fire & ice aren't exactly the most exciting band to listen to or see, but regardless i still dig em.
i'm not trying to like on youth crew, but it is what it is. a niche portion of a genre of music that is already too "extreme" for the general public. it has its own built in audience, which i do respect. keep it clear is a good example of a decent band embodying the style, same with the aforementioned mindset. i just feel like there's other stuff i'd way rather listen to or support consistently.
