Day 1

No Eulogy: Best Nick Gibas project. No comment on how we played.
White Ribs: Scotts kick pedals ruined it.
Joyce Collingwood: FUCKING AWESOME. FUCK EVERYONE ELSE. VICTORIA IS KNOWN TO NOT MOVE AROUND. PLAY VANCOUVER AND YOULL SEE THE DIFFERENCE.
Putrid Brew: People went nuts.
Persistence of Time: Singer had a Crossed out patch and was missing teeth.
Still Fighting: er...what...i..
Still Birth: Infest was covered.
Blackwater: Insane.
Compound Terror: Watching scott die ruled.
Tempest: I guess zach didnt see damages...
Horizons: no idea, although im sure i watched.
Cold Craving: Holy shit.
Voices: Nobody liked em last years and they still rule,
AK47: Black Kronstadt forever.
Ill Intent:saw them like 2 years ago and the old singer grabbed me by the throat and screamed at me. missed that.
Crucified: no idea.
Withdrawal: no idea.
Donnybrook!: ha.

Day 2

Victims Choice: FUCK LONG WEEKEND TRAFFIC.
Young Oppression: Was sick. 16 year olds with bad attitudes? ive never heard of such a thing.
Sabertooth: did i yell at them to play Jawbreaker? if so they ruled.
Fear of Tomorrow: UGH
Tongue Tied: FOO FIGHTER COVERS ARE FUN!
On Call Heroes: SAMOSAS
Promises: I wanna put out their 7"
Damages: This band was the best band. Motor is an insane drummer, with the best snare and kick drum sound, 3 rack toms used to perfection and is a beast. I'm so glad you have an aluminum guitar, the best bass tone as nick, and your lyrics are powerful and you all give out an energy which makes this band such an emotional experience. And the Born Against cover kicked fucking assssssssssssss.
Everyone Everywhere: er.
Make Do And Mend: Fun.
Shookones: Talked to the guitarist who is in a band called Black Breath about MDF for like 30 minutes. we also talked about going on tour with Converge and Entombed and the Swedish Death Metal guitar tone. That guy ruled.

fun times.
fuck you Alexis.

Man this year was so much fun, I enjoyed it a lot more than last year! Saw some great bands met some rad people, you Langley kids super!

Day 1

No Eulogy: Sorry I missed you dudes. I am sure you guys were awesome as always.
White Ribs: Again sorry I missed it.
Joyce Collingwood: Missed this one too.
Putrid Brew: Good jams
Persistence of Time: I have mixed feelings about this band, that's all I am gonna say.
Still Birth:--------|
Still Fighting: |- These 3 have for some reasons all blurred together for me, not my favourite style of hardcore but I had fun.
Substance: ------|
Blackwater: For some reason I don't remember this band. Sorry dudes.
Compound Terror: not my thing.
Tempest: Great Tunes, even better dudes.
Horizons: I really dig this band, but I am a little bias because I pretty much like any band that plays this kinda stuff.
Cold Craving: I thought this band had brilliant stage presence but not really my thing.
Voices: I don't see the Have Heart comparison. This was my Favourite band of this year and last. I really really dig this band.
AK47: Words can not express the love and respect I feel for this band.
Ill Intent: Another great set, had a lot of fun.
Crucified: Not what I am usually as into but I really liked these guys.
Withdrawal: These always play a great set but for some reason I just can't really get that into them.
Donnybrook!: The singer is the scariest man I have ever seen.

Day 2

Victims Choice: The Tambro and I were in a Traffic jam during this set.
Young Oppression: not worth dicussing
Sabertooth: This band was SWEET!
Fear of Tomorrow: Due to the traffic situation I only caught the tail end, not bad.
Tongue Tied: I heard their drummer pooped his pants.
On Call Heroes: Good dudes, not really my thing though.
Promises: Will is a handsome handsome man.
Damages: This band rules really fucking hard and as usual I really enjoyed their set, (even from the concession)
Everyone Everywhere: Not into pop punk but I always have fun when they play, plus their solid dudes.
Make Do and Mend: This was one of favs of the two days, probably not the kind of thing i'd ever put on at home but their live show is fantastic.
Slingshot: Fun band, I was doing concession so I wasn't in the action.
Shook Ones:Again i am not into pop punk and its something i'd ever put on at home but everytime I see these guys I have so much fun.
It's so easy to laugh, It's so easy to like, It takes strength to be gentle and kind .

tempest: good stuff, record was super cheap, didnt like when he crashed in to me but it got better, (did they do the buffy the vampire slayer cover?)

black water: this was really good my memory is hazy but i know i liked it, i think they had blasts.

ill intent:also really good, vocalist was a lanky guy in a cro mags shirt, vocal pitch was higher then most hardcore bands, i really liked that.

DAY TWO

pre show bbq:
falling down: they were very bubble gum pop, reece was right though they have a song with a blast beat. giles the vocalist was in one of the tough guy bands but i cant remember which.

everyone everywhere: sat at a table, got drowsy, fell asleep, troy slapped the table, woke up, they finished playing.

shook ones:they were all right, guitar player played at maryland death fest knows entombed, thats cool.

in conclusion: day one was more fun for me, day two had some good parts though, also if ant bodies interested i can set you straight as to which "still" band is which, and AWESOME WEEKEND
Was it tempest that did the buffy cover? I swear it was another band as i was outside with Bong i think when that cover happened. i swear.... also it was the begining of a bands set. and I was inside for the start of tempest.
Pretty sure it was Cold Craving maybe that did Buffy.
Blackwater played before PoT.
If you like Floppy's vocals in Ill Intent check out Stop At Nothing from Olympia and Foul Play Soccer Club.
Giles the vocalist of Falling Down was in Persistence of Time (guitar). Fun Facts: He also plays guitar/vocals in blanket rock band Woolworm, and did vocals in the AMAZING band Set Foot. Also has a solo project called Geordi.

Totally did wake you up.
Guitar player of shook ones (Funds) plays in Black Breath (new album out on Southern Lord). yeah good dude.

First off. Thanks too Troy and Tyler for the hospitality. Gave away/sold so many demos at the fest so that was super. Met some super cool island people/hung out with. Johnny is a super swell dude and likes Mission Hill and is a huge fan of the Simpsons. Everyone on the Island seemed super sweet. Thanks to all.

No Eulogy: to be honest don't really remember them all too well. I guess thats what happens if you're first up at a 12 day.
White Ribs: These guys were cool. I think we creeped them out though in Troy's backyard. When we offered them to come into our tent and play battleslugs
Joyce Collingwood: MEH
Putrid Brew: Not my style but the crowd loved them so it was cool
Persistence of Time: Not my style either but damn this set was cool
Still Fighting: dont really remember them
Still Birth: dont remember them either. sorry Winnipeg
Blackwater: So Fucking good. Ended up hanging with these dudes a lot and even got them on a show in Vancouver. Sweet tunes and sweet dudes.
Compound Terror: Missed their set
Tempest: So sick. Seen em quite a few times and they still blow me away. Sweet dudes
Horizons: Kinda generic but itr was alright
Cold Craving: Really sick band.
Voices: So good. The Waits cover was badass. top notch
AK47: First time seeing these vetrans. I was impressed.
Ill Intent: not my stlye but they were cool. Read zines through their set.
Crucified: dont really remember them.
Withdrawal: left early to make it back to the Troyler
Donnybrook!: see previous comment

Day 2

Victims Choice: missed most of their set. They were awesome though
Young Oppression: bummer attitudes but fun band. would've loved to take thier place at the "shitty" fest.
Sabertooth: so sweet live. cover was siiick. I got merch from these guys for one of my shitty demos!
Fear of Tomorrow: Find this band boring.
Tongue Tied: Hunter is a sweet dude. Such an awesome band. Foo Fighters cover was easilythe best cover played at the fest.
On Call Heroes: Sat outside during this band. They can be cool dudes and all but this band is terrible
Promises: really sweet band. Better live than recorded. Siiick cover as well.
Damages: These guys still blow me away and ive seen them like 8 times. Born Against cover had me leaving the merch table.
Everyone Everywhere:Better than I expected.
Make Do And Mend: So wicked. Saw this band after todays show, two nights in a row and they still blow me away.
Slingshot: SO MUCH FUCKING FUN. Victoria went off for this band. holy shit that was fun.
Shook Ones: Siiiick set for how short it was. SO much energy

Hope to be back sooner than next year's fest. Will be at the fest fo' sho' though.

Totally understandable. People seemed to "dig" us, and despite some technical difficulties involving a broken string, I managed to save the day with witty jokes vis a vis Nick's manhood. I am awesome.

In retrospect, I would gladly have given you their spot. That is all I will say on the matter, as I consider it closed.

NOW THEN:

Day One

No Eulogy: needs certain bass players to harden the fuck up.
White Ribs: Rage
Joyce Collingwood:I dug. Wasn't inside when they were complaining about people moving, but no one really moved during our set or White Ribs. It's what happens when you open.
Putrid Brew: got me into a mosh pit for the first time in two years. Congrats.
Persistence of Time: love these dudes, love this band, owe them a show for cutting them short.
Still Birth: Awesome
Still Fighting: funniest front man in hardcore. Winnipeg represent.
Blackwater: Holy scram. Excellent.
Compound Terror: Should have had more people inside. Jesus. I have decided to kidnap Jaime and keep him in my closet. Every time we want to have a CT show, I will take him out and he will play it. Otherwise I will simply have a TV playing endless Star Trek episodes on loop and feed him pizza.
Tempest: Fuck this band for being this good. Goddammit. That was...fuck. So good.
Horizons: always fun, always enjoyable
Cold Craving: awesome
Voices: even better
AK47: Fuck Racism, Fuck Skrewdriver, and Fuck You Too. I <3 this band.
Ill Intent: best dudes, great band.
Crucified: Hard
Withdrawal: MOSH
Donnybrook!: so much fun, would put a show on for them anytime.

Day Two

Victim's Choice: Great band, keep getting better.
Young Oppression: fuck 'em. Not worth losing sleep over.
Sabertooth: Amazing, but I wish they would have actually listened to us when we asked them to be discreet with their drinking. Still...Jawbreaker cover.
Fear of Tomorrow: FUCK YES. Sorry Warren, gotta disagree with you, this was definitely a highlight for me on Day Two. Will be doing another show for them, soon.
Tongue Tied: Hunter, I'm seriously impressed dude. Great tunes, awesome covers (fuck yes Wasted), CBC shout outs and incense. I want you guys to come to the island again soon.
On Call Heroes: falls in the "eh, kids like 'em" category for me. Nothing at all against these dudes, very polite and their drummer was an excellent man for loaning his drums out like that, but they play music I just can't get into. /crotchety old man
Promises: FUCK
Damages: DOUBLE FUCK
Everyone Everywhere: Drew is a gentle soul with a crooners heart.
Make Do and Mend: holy shit impressed. Great guys, great tunes, fantastic stage presence. Would, no homo.
Slingshot: YESSSSSSSS
Shook Ones: I have never been sadder than the time I had to cut this band short. FML.

Overall, great weekend, a few hiccups, but fuck it all the bands got paid and I saw more grins than I've seen all year. Totally worth the stress.

Okay, well this one time my grandfather had to hide in the woods for almost a year because he lived in Czechoslovakia in 1938 and was Jewish. And 12. He managed to escape without ever seeing the inside of a prison camp, and made it to England where he actually found his parents and was raised there where he got a good education and got his PHD.

OH and the rest of his family was murdered by Nazi's.

voices did the tom waits cover and the buffy cover as their intro.

liked: slingshot, make do and mend, damages (never watched them or listened to them before but they really blew me away. greatest bass tone), shook ones, sabertooth, voices, obvs Tambo and the Promises,

didn't like day one at all other than horizons wasted and voices, but also i was really sick so it might have been partly that...

wish i saw cold craving.

the memorable sets for me were...

still birth - biggest surprise, sweet band
tempest - was to be expected
donnybrook - super entertaining in all the right ways. I love this stuff.
damages - also was to be expected
promises - best set ever!

honourable mentions were...
what I heard of cold craving
horizons (I think? some band with a cool guitar riff that's still stuck in my head)

sorry my list is so short. I saw most of the other bands. I guess I'm just impatient during such huge lineups.

No Eulogy: I heard thosr guys are all dicks
White Ribs: great band - not really my thing but the 2nd vocals were HARD!
Joyce Collingwood: motorhead played by babes - rad!
Putrid Brew: stole the show last year with one of the opening spots, this year was unbelievably more tight, lindsay was a super rad and nice dude, one of my favs again this year!
Persistence of Time: was attending to business elsewhere, what i heard was awesome, sorry the set had to get cut
Still Fighting: Ryley was by far the most entertaining dude, i saw him in a sailor hat, a camo shirt wrapped like a turban and witnessed him ask ebony to pee in his mouth...twice - tunes were rad, winmipeg stomp in full effect and shared some fun stories at my place afterwards
Still Birth: pretty decent stuff played by really nice people!
Substance: nobody likes hearing a bands am transmission blew up at 3am - sorry dudes!
Blackwater: wasnt too blown away like some, and disliked how they "dont like playing in halls" but at least they didnt trash the fest, also didnt care for them giving me grief about not wanting to give them one of the silkscreened posters for free - seriiusly dudes, i paid for your demo...
Compound Terror: scott has to man up, i heard him cry and complain on 4 or 5 seperate occasions... Hahaha i also live this band and like kevin for being so good
Tempest: i was attending to business, really solid from what i heard, i couldnt film them as they insisted on playing in the dark...argh
Horizons: great set from a great band, stoked to hear they may be relocation to closer proximity
Cold Craving: awesome band, couldnt film as they played in the dark too, bastards, bought their LP...soooo fuckin good!
Voices: also one of my favs from last year, they gave me a cd and wanted to give me a shirt, i paid them - they rule abd thetom waits cover made me smile AK47: "Set was awesome, but lacked Bubba."
Ill Intent: massive energy and just really solid dudes backing it, i was havin a good time during ther set!
Crucified: one of the bands i wad most stoked to see, great set - bought their LP, fubar t shirt (best tour shirt ever) and a patch for $20...fuck yeah!
Withdrawal: adam is the most sincere dude ever, how he humbly told me "thanks for screaming the lyrics back at me dude, it really means the world to me" really gave me a warm fuzzy feeling normally reserved for boners! They stayed at my place as well, really good dudes
Donnybrook!: i couldnt get over that they wrer actaully playing - i loved how the next song was always "really awesome" & "our best song yet" talking to the lead singer after was cool, he bought a silkscreeneed poster off me and congratulated us on our work...looks can be deceiving!

Day 2 Victims Choice: got there late, caught the last song, rad band - love te tshirt dudes
Young Oppression: someone needs to oppress them, just sayin
Sabertooth: attending to business but heard good things, i think i filmed the end, got their demos thougj
Fear of Tomorrow: I live trash, especially hen theres crust involved, super gracious and nice dudes!
Tongue Tied: the incense was a bit much but i was stoked on it, foo fighterz AND black flag coverz????!!!!!!! Wowie!
On Call Heroes: att ding business getting starbucks for the lively ladies working concession and the booth
Promises: Best hXc band in victoria hands down - tambo tambo tambo tambo tambo
Damages: Love this band...LOVE! Best set ive seen them play and cant believe motor is leaving, so sad! Cant say enough aboit how awesome they are (only band i actually said "here, take this screenprinted poster, you guys arent getting paid enough"
Everyone Everywhere: pipke is a madman on drums! Drew dedicate"danny glover..." to me & all in all, rad band
Make Do and Mend: totally great band , only saw the first few songs, attending business elsewhere
Slingshot: ive never sang so loud or piled on so hard as i did for this band - smiling from ear to ear te entire time
Shook ones: soooooo good! Sucks we cut em
Short but we had to, awesome band and hope we can get em back!

We love all the comments about our band! Regardless if you liked us, hated us or didn't care for us we just want to say THANKS so much to everyone in Victoria for inviting us to play there, we had the most amazing time at the Festival and met some great people, we can't wait to go back next year.
