you can put bass/mid/treble at ten and then pull out the knobs(thats what she said) for a little extra boost. treble at 11.

Did you buy it used? That probably used to be my head. I fucking loved it. Also, if you pull the boosts, it doesn't matter where you set the knob, it will sound exactly the same. It only sounds good with all EQ's boosted
. But yeah, for the cost, that head fucking rules. Jordan Foote also used to own that amp (I bought it off him!)

I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.
Re: Gear thread cont'd
jordon foote plays guitar?
I've sold my guitars down to 3 (and one bass) and I think I'm going to hold steady with that. I am considering getting rid of some more stuff of mine.
as for new things, I'm really interested in an ampeg vh140c. vancouver had one for cheap on craigslist but I missed it. andrew, if you happen to stumble upon one, I'd really appreciate it. it's a solid state head that lots of florida bands (like combatwoundedveteran) used.

Sure, if I come across one I'll let you know. Speaking of solid state Ampegs, I recently bought a 70's V6B. They're large and only 240 watts, but they sound cool when overdriven.tylerp wrote:as for new things, I'm really interested in an ampeg vh140c. vancouver had one for cheap on craigslist but I missed it. andrew, if you happen to stumble upon one, I'd really appreciate it. it's a solid state head that lots of florida bands (like combatwoundedveteran) used.

Holy shit, I found the 50 watt version to be adequate, though maybe a bit quiet depending how loud your band is. Regardless, great amp, great choice, fully backed, etc. I think if I were in the market for a guitar head again, I'd totally try and get another one.reece wrote:when did you have this?

am i a freak for thinking that most of the time even 100 watts isn't enough?
just looked at my budget today - shit is fucked. so much of my gear that i use regularly and is integral to my game needs significant amounts of money sunk into it. my two main heads need repairs and new KT88's. thinking about KT100's for my V4 if it can take it. considering selling my marshall jcm900 and my jagstang to get an orville LP custom to go with my gibby. also considering selling my verlage vtr-100 - rare and cool, and i just figured out how to really get good tones out of it, but it's not that worth it for me.
also want one of these:

and two of these would be nice:

Depends how many tubes. Then it depends what quality of tubes. The answer 100% of the time though: It's expensive.reece wrote:100 watts is never enough, i have two heads goin.

Google Lord Valve and then request his tube catalogue. He will likely have a recommendation for tubes for your amp too, if you ask him. Top notch tubes for good prices.reece wrote:100 watts is never enough, i have two heads goin.

Do you all have a particular guy in Vic who does the work on your tube amps?
Re: Gear thread cont'd
I have some contacts... when I wanted some work done on my V4, I ended up just selling it anyway. guy who bought it didn't even want to try it out. so weird.
there are a couple local guys who don't work at a shop but have great reputations, including the guy who makes evans pickups and a couple livevic posters who only come in to talk shop once in a while.
I have heard both good and really bad things about getting l+m to do amp work.
sean of tempest uses some guy in washington state who is some huge v4 expert and runs a website about them.
my model T is in tip-top shape still (thanks to kevin smart who seems to have treated it like a princess before selling it to me) and my peavey is still fine.

Re: Gear thread cont'd
the guy that long and mcquade uses is john pang. hes got a little store (pangco electronics) near mayfair, inbetween douglas and burnside. i went to him once with my amp. got it back and it blew again right away, but he fixed it the 2nd time for free. hes real nice but yeh i question the quality of his work.
i also dont find 100 watts to be enough. i dont think i would EVER own a 50 watt head. well depending on the music i guess.

ive taken my amp to on multiple occasion to Anthony Smith at music teck, number :250 415 0677
Super fast, very fair on price. But again SUPER fast, he's done all the work I've needed in less than 24hrs. I don't know if he's doing a whole re-tube he could do that for you, but I 100% recommend him.

is he good at troubleshooting weird problems? my acoustic 370 has been acting up (fizzling on and off, smelling like burning at the power cord end)

Re: Gear thread cont'd
my problems have always been tube, or tube socket issues, and he was good at figuring out that was the problem. he's been doing this kind of stuff for a long time--he did TV repairs professionally for years and now he's doing this full time. I'd give him a call and see what he says.
